So, most &amp;quot;criticism&amp;quot; tends to be of the very shallow variety, if it even aspires to anything more than fawning praise of the latest major release. (To be fair, this isn&amp;#39;t exactly unique to games. Most movie reviewers aren&amp;#39;t a big step up from this.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Even if we do get real criticism, it tends to be rather simplistic. Computer games haven&amp;#39;t been around as a &amp;quot;serious&amp;quot; medium for very long (if at all), so you don&amp;#39;t get the real heavyweights. The analysis and criticism tends to be simplstic. And, a lot of it borrows heavily from other media. What we should hope for is for people to start looking at games and appreciating their strengths (the interactivity, as mentioned). Then we might see some criticism worthy of that name.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3352155589322140093/7675420377108031117/comments/default/1338285361590378905'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3352155589322140093/7675420377108031117/comments/default/1338285361590378905'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.thatsaterribleidea.com/2011/06/game-criticism-that-i-care-about.html?showComment=1308077064785#c1338285361590378905' title=''/><author><name>Brian 'Psychochild' Green</name><uri>http://psychochild.org/</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img1.blogblog.com/img/blank.gif'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.thatsaterribleidea.com/2011/06/game-criticism-that-i-care-about.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352155589322140093.post-7675420377108031117' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3352155589322140093/posts/default/7675420377108031117' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-772599936'/></entry></feed>
